If you have seen the TV-show this is a more ‘bare’ or ‘raw’ take. While the art is more ‘visible’ the plot appears to have drained. Along with the plot the genres died as well.
-plot i mentioned has died because it is very plain in this case. Here it is just a person’s ‘private’ goal. That is all. Then when the goal is within _____ the scene ____. Yes, the underlines are there are purpose to describe the disappointment.
-What was in the tv show feminism comedy is now lewd humor and very limited at that. Comedy is suppose to cause laughter. If it is made apparent what is going on where is the surprise punch line so to speak? when you can’t see something coming and then it arrives that is what causes a rise of emotion. Whether it is fear or laughter.
-clear and more taunting. This is a borderline hentai. Animations is smooth. Emotions are crisp.
Conclusion Remark: if you want something you can screen grab from and to display as you see fit as a poster or something here you go. If you want something more…. look somewhere else.
Like the Special, it features unhidden nipples and quite a lot of them. Especially thanks to the second episode, they probably occupy the majority of frames. That are also two borderline-hentai sex scenes, but they’re extremely short and only present in the first episode.
However, like in the Special, the humor has much lower presence here. For one, it mostly lacks the RPG parody present in the main series. Instead it largely relies on lewd humor (admittedly, not unfitting), mostly in the “Emperor’s New Clothes”-like setup of the second episode.
The Bikini Warriors OVA is a nice little thing, if you want to see the characters in their “uncensored” glory and the Special wasn’t enough. As such, it’s best to watch it after the main series, as an extra, just like said Special. Sadly, while the OVA is amusing enough on its own, the humor of the main series is still sorely missed.
12: Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of the Time
English: Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time
Japanese: グローランサーIV ~Wayfarer of the time~
MAL Score: 5.58
A promotional ova that came with the PS2 game, Growlanser IV Returns which is an add-on featuring a compilation of three short stories that is told in visual novel style.
Since it is a promotional ova, various main characters from Growlanser I, Growlanser II, and Growlanser III do appear in the ED. Actually, some of the fairies of these main characters do appear in Growlanser IV as that the entire Growlanser story is based on anti-war featuring time freeze, time traveling, and parallel worlds.
Growlanser is not something to called magnificent but it is videogame adaptation that at least is enjoyable and really well done to promote the videogame.
Story = 6
Since MAL hasn’t typed the story about this OVA here it is.
So the story talks about this commander of an army called Dianna that after a war happened in her continet she decides that there should be a peace treaty among the nations of the continent, but some people of the high hierachy decide that there should be a revolt and like that make another conflict.
The story is not that great but does the job. The message of making peace and not have more war is cliche but it doesn’t drag too long and you can have some entertainment value out of this. It is not perfect but hey at least is not an Idea Factory OVA.
Characters = 5
The only some sort of development in this OVA is about Dianna, she is a commander but after experimenting the war and seeing that people have suffered enough. Her character is ok. She is the one giving the speech about the peace treaty but she is good at sword fighting against others and just that.
The other characters are tropes, but do the job. The character development is not existent though.
Animation = 8
The character designs for me are simply beautiful. They have this 90s feel and for being a simple promotion of a videogame that nobody knows, they really show they did care. There aren’t any weird frames or some weird 3D animation like many of this videogame promotions tend to do. The only problem is that there aren’t many scenes where they show how this continent is. That would have added a big plus to at least get the feel of the setting they are in. Good job from Feels and Zexcs.
Sound = 8
The music is great. The instumental pieces they chose are fantastic. Honestly is an OST worth to check out. It is very medieval but also melancholic sometimes and it is used at their fullest because for being 30 minutes they used it for all this animation and the ending song is nice too.
The voice actors are ok. They do the job. Nothing feels forced or souless and they gave some life to the characters on the show.
Enjoyment and Overall.
Check it out if you have time. It is an okish OVA and something to watch if you have a half hour.
This is everything. Take care in whatever you do and see ya around.

10: Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai.: Mie Sugi! Mizugi Contest
English: So, I Can’t Play H! Episode 13
Japanese: だから僕は、Ｈができない 。 見えすぎ! 水着コンテスト
MAL Score: 6.68
With their school’s pool opening the next day, Iria schemes up the idea to hold a swimsuit contest. With Lisara, Mina, Quele, and Iria herself all participating in the event.
I’ll assume you’ve watched the series before reading this review. Since the synopsis doesn’t have any information about the story i’ll just say it’s your typical highschool swimsuit contest situation between the 4 main female characters. You can imagine what comes next since all of them are trying to win over Ryosuke and he’s trying to help Lisara and the one who organized it all was of course Iria.
Overall this is a nice addition to the series if you’re into the whole fanservice thing, the structure is the same as all the episodes so there’s nothing new you’ll see here, just enjoy all the bouncing breasts and panty shots you probably loved from the series.
This is your typical run-of-the-mill swimsuit episode! The 4 main females in a swimsuit contest. So the story this contributes to the original series= none! Personally I loved the series and I actually thought the original series had good story despite the obvious fan-service that was going on. So if you want that swimsuit episode as bad as my grandpa, this OVA is for you.
Art is great… if you know what I mean.
A perfect 10 here. The corresponding musics are good. The intro and outro music are the same as the original, and I personally have them on my playlist. Its all the same and is good.
Lisara and Ryousuke and all the other character’s hold up and you don’t get a ruined vision of them by watching this OVA.
If you come into this OVA expecting a fan service only episode, you are getting everything you should be expecting. And your enjoyment will vary with how much you like fan service. I liked it, and I’m happy I experienced this episode, mainly because of my grandpa’s wise words.
9: Strait Jacket
Japanese: ストレイト ジャケット
MAL Score: 6.83
It is the world where magic and science coexist. Rayotte Steinberg, a lone wolf “tactical sorcerist”, fights against monsters. They used to be human beings, but they had overused forbidden power, “magic”, to turn into monsters. What he wears is “mold”, the straight jacket that keeps him being a human. What he holds on his hand is “staff”, a magical wand that explodes everything. If he casts magic, he moves one step to be a monster. If he doesn’t, he will be killed. Among the harsh battles, he will face a sin he had committed in the past.
Story: 6 (what do you expect from 3 episodes)
Art: 10 (Edge of your seat action sequencesl)
Sound: 8 (A lot of bodies ripping apart)
Character: 7 (Typical bad ass action buffs)
Enjoyment: 10 (I’ve seen it twice already)
Overall: 41/50 = 8.2 = ~8 (So much action in 60 minutes)
Strait Jacket manages to put more action, violence, and drama in 3 episodes than some action drama series can put in 50+ episodes. If you are a complete action aficionado, this is one that you CANT MISS. Theres not much you can explain in terms of story but they manage to make a good beginning middle and end to this OVA. Basically magic technology is advancing civilization so much that everything requires magic. But overuse and misuse can have its drawbacks and thats where we start this show. An elite armed force unit hired to dispatch these anomalies.
The story is obviously second to the action because these fight scenes take up over half of each episode and thats perfectly fine with me. Just everything about the fight scenes screams completely over the top. From ripping people to shreds to using super powerful guns that rips holes through buildings. It all just screams edge of your seat action. Now I’m sure you’re saying, "a lot of anime do the same thing what makes this one so special?" Details my friend, details.
First off, the monsters they cook up for this show is something only to be seen to be believed. Although for the most part they’re pretty ridiculous, but they will still make you go "woah" when you see them. But the artwork, camera angles, and detail to everything is just amazing. You actually feel the sense of destruction and power when watching a show like this. For seasoned action freaks like me, thats very hard to do considering we are usually numbed by things like that.
Overall this show, was completely awesome for a 3-episode stint. The story had a pretty reasonable beginning, middle, and end with even a plot twist that even surprised me (but I think that was mostly because I was still amazed with the action). For being such a short series, I highly recommend this to anyone who likes action, violence, and amazing artwork. Although, those who doesn’t like gratuitous violence you might want to watch this.
But truth be said, after seeing some of the artwork and reading a synopsis about Strait Jacket, I just had to watch it.
Good thing It wasn’t disappointing. The scenes were quite well done; though you always see details that could have been better. Such as battle scenes being done too fast and the magic not being well explained. But what do you expect from 3 episodes; there wasn’t any time to do so.
However, Strait Jacket did a perfectly fine job on making 3 episodes worthwhile and actually make sense. A lot of short Anime series (OVA in particular) explain nothing and/or let nothing happen due to their short time. Some even rush things through a few episodes and gives us an open ending.
Strait Jacket isn’t one of them. Though you might consider it to have an open end; it is not a cliffhanger and doesn’t really disappoint you. It’s just what you’d expect it to be. Nothing too flasy, nothing too fancy, nothing weird, awkward or lame. It is quite enjoyable and can be watched with a coke and some popcorn. See it as watching a movie; since it in total is almost as long.
I give this series a 7 overall, though the sounds get an 8 from me. It really adds up to the series, creates suspense and isn’t repeated too much. Other words, it’s perfectly fine, just like the OVA is.
So really, if you have little time to kill and want to enjoy a good serie within a short amount of time; this is a pretty good choice.
Before going into detail, I should add that what makes this OVA work for the English-speaking world is its nearly spot-on dub. The dub isn’t perfect, and in some areas can be less than stellar (I’m less than impressed with the dub of Mary Simmons, who comes off as a pretty weak character, despite being voiced by Bridget Hoffmann) but with a cast made of up, get this: Steve Blum, Crispin Freeman, Vic Mognogna (yes, you read that right: all three in the same OVA!) Kari Wahlgren, Jamieson Price, and Lara Jill Miller along with the aforementioned Bridget Hoffman, you just cannot go wrong.
Story: 7 (Good)
The story is not exactly exceptional but far from bland and unoriginal: it’s the late 19th century, and people have figured out how to mechanize sorcery, basically. Since practicing too much sorcery can have nasty side effects, mainly turning people into homocidal demons, sorcerists wear "mould suits" which allows them protection. However, sometimes these suits fail, and the number of demon transformations have risen due to mold suit sabotage by a terrorist group calling themselves "Oddman." It’s up to the Tactical Sorcerists, or "Strait Jackets" to deal with these demon outbursts. Hammond is one of these sorcerists; he considers his rival Steinberg to be an extreme danger due to his unlicensed status, unrestrained methods and sometimes downright suicidal attitude, which may have something to do with the relationship he has with the strange little girl Capeltata.
The story alone is not what makes this OVA great, but it’s not something just tacked on either.
Art: 7 (Good)
Anymore, the art really can’t be considered all that special, but given the average state of art in anime in recent years (a pretty big jump in quality, and pretty much light-years over some of the darkest days in the medium; see M.D. Geist, Mad Dog 34 or Vampire Wars) that’s almost becoming a compliment, and if you can’t be spectacular, at least being average beats the other alternative, especially when "average" is becoming pretty darn decent lately.
Though, speaking of M.D. Geist this OVA doesn’t spare on the blood and gore either. It lacks the sheer cheese factor of that particularly ancient and bad OVA, but take it as you will in regards to whether it drags the OVA down or props it up.
Sound: 8 (Very Good)
It’s hard to determine, really, whether all the points that contribute to this category being so high really deserve to belong here or over at the character column, because the voice acting really goes far towards making this OVA work. But even if you take all that out, we get some pretty awesome sound effects.
Character: 8 (Very Good)
Ahh, now we get to the best part. The characters are great, and its entirely thanks to their English VA’s. Mary Simmons, despite having Bridget Hoffman behind her, does tend to fail, but given the opportunities for the rest of the cast (hey, it’s got Steven Blum and Crispin Freeman as the leads) there’s not much that can be said other than you simply can’t go wrong. If you want to experience just how awesome Freeman and Blum can be, let alone together, you owe it to yourselves to see this.
Enjoyment: 8 (Very Good)
And that’s just what this OVA is: awesome, and Blum’s and Freeman’s voices are just dripping of it. Trust me, you may not enjoy all 90 minutes but you’ll enjoy darn near close to it. The only real damn shame about Strait Jacket is that unlike Read or Die there’s no series to follow it, but given how recent this OVA is hopefully that will change soon.
Which gives Strait Jacket a final score of:
8: Very Good
8: Kiss x Sis
MAL Score: 6.89
When Keita Suminoe’s father remarried, not only did he gain a new mother, but elder twin sisters as well. Distinct yet similar, the homely and mature Ako is a former student council president, while the athletic and aloof Riko is the previous disciplinary president. The three of them have been together since kindergarten, resulting in a deep bond between the siblings. However, over time, their relationship developed into something more romantic—and erotic .
Now in his last year of middle school, Keita has already received a sports recommendation, but it’s from a different high school than his two sisters. Disappointed, both sisters try to change his mind, and he agrees, giving in to their desperate pleas. Unaware of the consequences, he now has to attempt to study for his high school exams while warding off the advances of his lust-driven sisters. With their parent’s blessings, Ako and Riko strive to be Keita’s future wife, leaving him to try his best to keep the relationship between them strictly platonic. However, with two beautiful girls vying for his attention, will Keita be able to withstand the endless temptations?
Kiss x Sis can be described in pretty much a single sentence: a guy named Keita and his two step sisters Ako and Riko doing horny and perverted things to each other around the clock, solely because they want to. That’s all. That’s all it needs to be. What makes Kiss x Sis stand out is that for once it is actually hot. The problem with most ecchi anime is that their ecchiness generally only consists of random panty shots and breasts plastered across the screen, and I think most people will agree with me if I say that you need something a bit more sophisticated than that if you want to turn people on. But Kiss x Sis has almost none of that. Instead what the show does have is countless deep kissing scenes, licking and sucking of just about all body parts, grinding, masturbation scenes, on-screen orgasms, countless types of sexual plays and more. In other words it actually *does something* in a sexual sense, instead of solely trying to rely on eye candy. As a result, what you end up with is a non-hentai show which can legitimately be used as fap material without forcing yourself, and that’s something extraordinarily rare to see. N-Not that I would do something like that myself or anything.
As far as ecchi elements themselves go, I think Kiss x Sis is most likely the best anime within the genre. There is no other anime which can consistently get you aroused as a viewer as much as this one does. The only thing it’s lacking a bit is actual characterization, as there is very little information given about the girls themselves which make you not think of them all too much. All you’ll really care about is seeing them get all hot and bothered with each other. Not that that’s too big of a problem per se, but if the show had as likeable girls as other borderline hentai series like To LOVE-Ru Darkness for example, then I’d probably have to give this a 10, as in that case it’d be as close to perfect as an ecchi anime can get.
Another thing that ticks me off a bit is the side characters in the show, specifically Keita’s homeroom teacher, her little sister as well as a random glasses girl from his school. While they’re not bad characters per se, and while they also have really hot ecchi scenes with Keita, I can’t help but feel like those scenes would have been even better had they simply starred Ako and Riko instead. The wincest feel is a major aspect of the show after all, and thus not using it to its full potential feels a bit wasted to me.
The soundtrack mostly consists of background music appropriate for sex scenes. Yes, it’s just the kind of jazzy background music you’d find in porn films. On the other hand the opening theme is surprisingly awesome and super catchy. As far as voice acting goes, be prepared to hear a lot of moaning and dirty talk, but the seiyuus definitely pull it off with flying colors.
Overall there are definitely a few things here and there I can nitpick on but they’re still quite minor stuff. What you see is still what you get, and Kiss x Sis stands out as quite likely the hottest non-hentai anime ever made, and that’s a quite impressive achievement in and of itself. If you’ve only seen the TV airing of the show, then I’d recommend giving the OVA series a shot as well as they’re significantly lewder and all-round better for its own intents and purposes.
If you’re looking for a textbook showcasing of what really good ecchi looks like, then look no further than this. Just make sure that your parents aren’t home when you decide to watch it.
I was quite impressed with this show. Sure, the plot is limited to a bunch of extremely sexual scenes and the characters don’t have much depth, but Kiss x Sis is able to succeed where other anime like it have not. I’ve watched plenty of harem/ecchi anime and have really enjoyed some of them. However, I find that a lot of these anime fail to effectively use ecchi elements. Sometimes they’ll show a random panty shot or have an unnecessary close up on a character’s breasts. Such scenes are usually meaningless and fail to stimulate the viewer, which is what they intend to do, and instead end up just wasting time. Kiss x Sis actually embodies the term ecchi by being incredibly hot and exciting without crossing the border into hentai.
Some ecchi anime try to throw in a plot to go along with the fan service in an attempt to have more meaning and depth. However these “plots” usually end up being completely nonsensical and poorly composed, and instead of making these anime better like they were intended to, these oftentimes unintelligible plot lines actually make the shows worse. Kiss x Sis doesn’t bother to spend time developing a meaningless story and instead focuses on making as many creatively stimulating moments as possible, which definitely works in its favor.
Keep in mind that this ova initially aired back in 2008. Even though it’s older, the female characters are still more detailed and have better designs than many of the characters in newer anime that I’ve seen. This makes them even more enjoyable to watch when they’re doing dirty things and makes me sincerely wish that I was in that lucky dastard Keita’s shoes.
The voice acting was fine, but I was really impressed with the believable moans of ecstasy and other sexual noises that the seiyuu made. The girls just sounded so cute, which heightened the overall experience for me. The theme songs and soundtrack are decent, but nothing to write home about.
While they aren’t developed as characters, the cast is still really fun to watch. Especially Riko and Ako Suminoe, the main character’s sisters and the stars of the show. They both have very fun personalities and their unquenchable love for their brother is admirable. The two of them have practically all of the qualities that I’d want in an older sister (I-If I was into incestuous stuff. Which I’m totally not. Y-You gotta believe me!) They’re just so great, and watching their flirtatious advancements towards their brother was an enjoyable experience. The other prominent girls showcased in this anime are also pleasant to watch and each have their own moments in the spotlight. They definitely were a positive contribution to the show. Now Keita himself if a rather plain and generic character, but that’s okay, since his purpose is to be that character that the viewers imagine themselves as, so he really doesn’t need to be anything special.
I’d be lying if I told you that I wasn’t turned on multiple times while watching this. And that’s exactly what an ecchi anime is supposed to do, which is why I ended up being quite fond of this show. I loved seeing all of the dirty situations that the sisters got their brother in. There were many hot and unique ones, and it was a joy watching all of them. Kiss x Sis also managed to be absolutely hilarious at times and kept a smile on my face throughout all of the episodes.
If extreme ecchi isn’t your thing or it makes you uncomfortable, then don’t watch Kiss x Sis. If you believe that a lewd animated show which was created purely for entertainment is “wrong” and “disgusting,” then don’t watch it and don’t condescend people who enjoy it. It’s as simple as that. And if you’re someone who wants to watch something sexy and entertaining, I’d definitely recommend Kiss x Sis.
I wouldn’t say is borderline hentai, but it will seem so on moments.
I love pretty much all of it. The story is not mind blowing, but its very well explained.
There’s way more than just accidental boob touching. Way more.
Your mind will scream omg.
The thing I admire and love about the story and the execution is how everyone but Keita sees the stepsister thing as completely normal. That’s where the fun is. He is barely able to hold it and is constantly under some guilt trip. Not to say his sisters aren’t, but less so. Even his parents tell him that if he should marry one of them. So in a way this anime could be seen as a battle between Keita’s guilty mind and his instincts.
I feel the anime met a short end. It doesn’t feel like an ending, but it was great for all its glory and sheer pervy-ness.
I highly recommend it to ecchi lovers, even though there’s no chance you haven’t watched it by now. In case you haven’t, drop all your worries and go watch it.
7: Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku – Tadoritsuita Basho
Japanese: FORTUNE ARTERIAL 赤い約束 たどり着いた場所
MAL Score: 6.89
After the school festival, Kohei and friends head to a small cottage out of town and enjoy themselves after working hard.
What was I expecting.. It’s an OVA, at best you would get is a bunch fanservice in the form of carefully planned trip to I don’t know, somewhere that you would have to put less to no amount of clothes. So it would be either be a beach, a pool or a hotsprings. Since the first two had been done in the first season, your guesses are correct. HOTSPRINGS! So yeah, all you manly guys out there are ready with your guns but please, put that away, the amount of “fanservice time” given isn’t even barely enough for you to capture a mental image for your manly standards.
Art and music quality is remains the same. So did the opening and ending songs. Yes, you heard me correctly, the OP and ED songs are still the same! If you would just labeled this episode, episode 13 (which somehow feels that way) no one would even complain.
Is there development for characters for this particular episode? Nope, don’t expect to see the love between Erika and Kouhei to develop. He’s still running into her naked. But yeah he escapes with just a smack to the face. Lucky guy. Where I’m from, if I see a real life girl naked, my eyes would get gouged
out. Expect no development on Erika’s vampirsm nature as well.
“What? She’s a vampire??”
Yes for those who did not watch the first season, she is a vampire..
“That would explains why she glitters under the sun!”
Yes that would explain why she….. Wait.. What?
So what’s so enjoyable watching this OVA? If you manage to watch through the entire season, then a little bit more wouldn’t hurt you now would it? Especially somehow, in this episode, the haremic aura seems stronger than usual. Even the Ice Queen, Kuze, falls head over heels for Kouhei. Oh, but he didn’t get the little girl. Something about a new law Japan enact banning lolicon themes? However brother-sister love in still present which means, the law on incest must not be in power yet.
Overall, this was a HAPPY anime no matter how tragic they made it seem. I haven’t seen such a happy anime since Shukufu no Campanella. Attempt to break from the harsh of circle of harem, failed. Does this OVA signal the creation of the second season? Perhaps not. If you have time to kill and you are a fan of the visual novel, they why not waste your time on this OVA? I mean, you probably wasted 5 minutes reading this review, so why not another 25mins?
Going in to an OVA to conclude what has been a disappointment (imo) of a series in Fortune Arterial, I did not hold any real expectation for the OVA. In fact, if it did worse than the series, I would not have been surprised, but turns out, I was surprised in a much different manner.
In short, I gave this OVA a 9 across the boards, simply because it was so much greater than the series for lack of better words. The story that was so jumbled in the series took a more coherent turn for the better, as development of the story takes place. The great thing about this OVA is that the story of it does not focus on one thing, but it incorporated many activities that the group participate in, and we see how it drives the story forward.
Art and Sound were solid, so no complaints.
Character is where this OVA shines. Going a bit back to the story development, I believe it directly tied into character development as we see characters progress substantially from their series counterpart. Characters that were never really explored had a chance to come out and see them for their glory and greatness. I am trying to be as ambiguous as possible so I don’t spoil any part of the OVA, but you will understand by the ending scene how much we see these characters seemingly grow over the course of 20 mins.
For enjoyment, I rated it a 9, just because going in, this would be the last of Fortune Arterial. I was a bit bummed out that there will be no season 2, but I hope others can still enjoy the OVA as much as I did.
Overall, a score of 9 does this OVA justice, especially if we factor in how poorly the series did. As mentioned before, only 20 mins for this OVA. This is definitely worth checking out and worth the effort if you went ahead and already finished the series.
I watched a low-res version of this OVA so I can’t really judge the sharpness/detailing relative to the original. For the most part everything is consistent with the main series but plus the aforementioned ecchi scene.
You get the standard TV OP and ED, same BGM, and same VAs.
This OVA takes place after the events of the TV series where the council (and some others) are relaxing after a successful school festival. They take a trip to a beach house where various activities take place (tennis, onsen, etc.). There isn’t any serious plot behind any of the events and, most unfortunately, no further explanation of how Kouhei will resolve Erika’s little family problem.
There is absolutely no additional character development in this OVA. All you can expect is what results from taking the main cast and plopping them by a lakeside cabin; all characters seem to behave consistent with their personalities in the main series. Except that you’d think Erika and Kouhei would have made some progress by now…
This is your typical “for fans only” OVA. If you liked Fortune Arterial, then this may be a fun addition. Just don’t watch it expecting a more satisfying conclusion.
6: Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yattemita. OVA
MAL Score: 7.06
A new OVA for the idol girls series Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yatte Mita. has been announced on the anime’s official Twitter. The news was first given at the 2nd Early Summer Nagarekawa Festival which took place at the Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo today, and consisted of live events including the main cast of the anime.

This review will be light and simple as these specials are just that, but what they came to do, they did very well.
If you’ve watched the main 12 episodes of this series, we know that the story is quite a straightforward slice of life based around a couple girls that were chosen to represent their town in order to increase its overall popularity. What better way than to take a few cute girls and have them spotlight the town with oozing charm?
The first episode focuses around Christmas time, while the second takes place a bit later and focuses on making a promotional video for Nagarekawa using our main girls.
I felt that the first episode of this OVA was spectacular in the warmth that it brought to the coldest season of the year. The bond between Nanako and Yukari grew even more, and it was nice to see. Fans of “yuri-bait” [raises hand] should enjoy it, even if it’s very subtle. It didn’t feel out of place and I thought it worked well within the context of this series.
The second episode puts a bit more highlight on Nat-chan, the extremely shy girl, and does it ever so gently as if the script itself was being careful not to make her feel too uncomfortable.
There weren’t any other reviews on these specials at the time of this writing, as there really isn’t much to say about this series in general. The plot is simple, wholesome and positive, kawaii girls helping their town survive financially via promotion gigs. These OVA eps simply continue that, and do it slightly even better. If you enjoyed the main series, be sure to give these a go.
5: Oshiete! Galko-chan: Natsuyasumitte Hontou Desu ka
English: Please tell me! Galko-chan OVA
Japanese: おしえて! ギャル子ちゃん 夏休みって本当ですか
MAL Score: 7.11
Bundled with fourth manga volume.
Story: honestly no story to this like the only real thing about it in this one is that its summer vacation and that the basically talk about there body that’s what i got out it for this OVA just the same as the anime.
Art: art is basically the same as the anime nothing too really talk about her
Sound: the OP is basically the ED for this so yeah its still good sound
Character: Galko is one of the main girls she is a pretty busty woman also for her appearance one would think she a total cheap slut but she isn’t she is actually pretty nice and what not. Ojou honestly nothing really too say about she basically a rich girl but also nice. Otako is last main for it and also is the one that usually starts the cameo about the different topic of there body and such and what not nothing else 2 say. (legit just copied this from my own review nothing too really say about them)
Enjoyment: meh the enjoyment really wasn’t there for me in terms of the anime the OVA was just MEH really wasn’t funny expect for 2 parts just a sit back relax type of OVA
Overall: giving this a 6 im surprised this has a 1 better overall than the anime the OVA was just meh really wasn’t funny and it was kinda enjoyable but not to the point of anime in my opinion
4: Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! OVA
MAL Score: 7.36
Limited edition episode included with pre-orders for the 13th and 18th light novel volumes.
Fast forward to 4 years later and they all grown up, a special visit by the parents to see how the 3 kids look like, It’s heart warming to see their parents back but of course being the souls, still wouldn’t know how the plane crashed. Hearing a marriage, well that shock me, this ova is a little bit rushed, could at least made this into a movie. Would give this a good rate if it continues until their marriage scene. I know some say incest marriage but they’re not really that releated.
Sora is totally different in her adult view compare to her 14 year view, her Haruhi resemblance is already disappeared in her adult view and look more mature as ever. Yutta well same as always. Background view are decent
Please the OST is really tear jerking
From my perspective, sora really change a lot, her tsundere trait may still be there but it became less in her adult view, Hina, well she really can do her own like going to school alone and can speak very well, Miu? She is inproduction to become an idol. Yutta? Going to work as a businessman? I guess and becoming a great father in making.
It seem to heart warming and enjoyable just only the ending part were really rushed, i rather wished to see how the marriage will go and how their life would be after the marriage, instead of leaving us imagining how their life might be, but i still give this 10/10 because their parents came back of course to check out on them, being the main role for this special visit.
How i wish they would make season 2. :/ or a movie at least
I must say that both of them are fulfiled with feels and emotions.
The first one is only emotions it goes around Hina. As always, out cute loli can’t get better.
The second one.. oh god.. It’s like the end of all the series? I want to believe it. I don’t want to spoiler but it has one of the most amazing endings ever. Characters have grown up 4 years and the girls are now in their new lives with their “papa”. Their parents come back from “the other world” just to check their little kids one more time
Always loved how the girls are drawn. Extremely cute..
Nothing so special, same OST I guess..
All the characters are perfect. I just love each of their personalities
Enjoyable OVAs, I really loved them.
I liked whole anime. It was great and after watching it I was like “eh what? it’s end? just like that?”. It was truly bad that anime just ended without anything and we were left with nothing but that uncertain feeling if girls were alright. We all knew how they were struggling and how hard it was for them. Happily enough, that OVA is sequel to main series.
I was truly overjoyed watching it, however it should be divided by two in my opinion. First one would stay OVA and second should be a movie.
First episode threw us into their old home with new character and left us without a word of explanation. How they ended up in their old home? What happened with Yuuta’s apartment? They were so many unanswered questions and this part of OVA was mostly ecchi… until very last part – Hina’s part where I was truly touched by her actions. Hina ran away from home! It was surprising and I wasn’t certain what to think about it, however I loved how it ended. It was nice part of anime and could stay as OVA.
Second episode was special. It’s something that should be animated as a Movie instead of OVA. There was a time skip 4 years into future. It was certain that characters developed well however a lot of story was missing and there was huge gap between what we seen and what we should see.
I think that spectator shouldn’t lose important events even if he can understand what’s going on after overlooking them. I felt uncertain about this time skip and then… a wedding? It was told that they struggled a lot and decided to get married. There was huge gap between what we knew and what OVA was about. It’s their life but we were watching over them from the beginning and I would love to watch over them until the very end. A movie would show us how they decided about marriage and what happened that they made their mind. Nice ending to it would be wedding itself.
“It’s been four years since that day. […] I bet they’ve really changed! […] This is our only chance, remember? And they only gave us one day to do it”. The only chance that girls’ parents got to see their children after 4 years of being in heaven.
I was feeling truly overjoyed and sad watching that. I felt like their parents that had to leave them without telling a word and came back to see if they are alright. I wanted to ask them about many thing but I wasn’t able to. I wanted to check them and ask if all is fine but I wasn’t able to. I was truly overjoyed that they matured a lot and they all became true family.
I think that second episode could have a movie instead of OVA and it would be much better however, I would sincerely recommend this anime (anime + OVAs) to everyone.
First episode was mediocre but second was amazing. I would never imagine that I will miss not my own kids and I will be missing them…
Characters were clearly outstanding and they developed truly well. They changed a lot from beginning of series and I loved these changes. I was surprised how girls matured, not only girls. Yuuta matured too. Characters were changing all time, it was just like in real life. Little events changed them a bit by bit. They had great times, time that they felt depressed and they were still doing their best and times that they regretted what they did. They were acting just like normal people, not dolls or fictional characters.
I have loved main story and the stories in OVAs were truly suitable. It was proper sequel but that time skip messed a lot and made huge gap between us and characters. Surprising thing was that this gap was kinda filled up during last episode and I was sincerely moved by what happened. I would give 10/10 if that gap wasn’t created and I would be able to watch whole story.
It was nothing special and I can’t say a lot about it.
3: Minami-ke Natsuyasumi
Japanese: みなみけ 夏やすみ
MAL Score: 7.38
Second Minami-ke OVA bundled with the 11th volume of the manga.
Chiaki, Kana, and Haruka decide how to spend their last few days of summer together. Kana struggles to finish her homework.
Chiaki is working on her summer goal of trying to do a backwards flip on the playground beam, the girls go to the beach, a flying beetle plays with Kana and Touma’s hearts, and Haruka’s friends go to a restaurant, where Atsuko has trouble deciding on what to order.
Normally i’d give the animation (6/10) a better score in the Minami-ke series, but this cgi beetle that Kana and Touma adopt as a pet at different times during the episode looks really bad and sticks out like a sore thumb. Overall, the episode felt more cheaply produced than normal.
The amount of material in the special is decent. The beach segment felt very generic, but Chiaki’s cute story made up for it. Touma names a pet beetle Natsuki, which confuses her older brother and makes for a humorous bit.
However, the funniest part of the episode in my opinion is actually after the credits – the restaurant segment with Hitomi and Atsuko, topped off with a very short bit of Hosaka ordering a drink at a fast food place.
So make sure you stick around after the credits. Other than that, there’s not much else to say. Here’s hoping for another season!
The story is not too great, there are some special things that make this better than your usual beach OVA/episode but it is just a decent beach episode. Like any Minami-ke episode, this one had plenty of little jokes and some bigger jokes which were fine I think, 7/10
The art is pretty fine, about as good as Minami-ke: Tadaima. But the CGI-based beetle and some other touches are making me hold back from giving it an 8, so it is a 7.
There are no openings and 1 ending for this episode, the ed is “San Shimai DAYS”, I found the song to be pretty bland and repetitive, about a 6/10. The voice acting felt a little “not-so-hyped-up” but it was still great, sound is a fine 7.
The characters are like usual pretty unique, charming and funny. They all have their own personalities and stuff they are known for. 8/10
So, on to enjoyment. I would give enjoyment a 6 for this episode. How generic the beach theme was really took my concentration away for a few minutes and everything didn’t feel as good as in the anime. It was just a bit average overall but the jokes and characters saved it. The jokes weren’t insanely funny but most made me smile and the one after the credits was by far the funniest one. Basically we got hadoka ordering something from a fast food restaurant and he starts undressing, so don’t quit after the credits.
In conclusion, not too much happened in this OVA so there is not much of a reason to watch it if you don’t want to. I would recommend you to since it was pretty fun and I just had to know what happened in the end…Well you gotta wait for another season? It has been closely 9 years since this was released, you never know? I give this OVA a 7 for being a fine little episode
2: Minami-ke Omatase
Japanese: みなみけ おまたせ
MAL Score: 7.41
Minami-ke OVA bundled with the 10th volume of the manga.
The story is average and pretty plain. Not too much to say about it, we just got the 3 sisters and their friends from school doing these things and having fun.
The art is great just like in Okaeri and Minami-ke Betsubara, 8/10
The opening is “Shunka Shuutou Festival”, same as bestubara and well I would say it is a 7.5, not too good, not too bad. The ed is “Arigatou Thank You”, pretty viby ending 8/10. The voice acting is as usual really good too 8/10
The characters are fine like usual, really funny and unique. 8/10. Overall this wasn’t too amazing but it was a fun OVA I enjoyed watching. Not filled but at least half-full of funny jokes. As a whole, 7/10 and it was pretty cool
1: Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku OVA
Japanese: やはり俺の青春ラブコメはまちがっている. 続 きっと, 女の子はお砂糖とスパイスと素敵な何かでできている。
MAL Score: 8.06
After accepting a weekend invitation, Hachiman Hikigaya accompanies Isshiki Iroha around the Chiba Prefecture to brainstorm ideas suitable for an ideal date with Hayato Hayama. As the duo wanders from place to place without a plan, they seemingly enjoy each other’s company. Yet, through these straightforward and sincere interactions, the meaning behind what it means to be genuine continues to intrigue Hachiman and his outlook for the future of the Volunteer Service Club and its members.
The “nice thing” that Isshiki Iroha had. It was sweet, yet spicy. And it was probably bitter and sour. Her “nice thing” was so bothersome that you wouldn’t be able to understand unless you experienced it for yourself.
And without a doubt, Isshiki wasn’t the only one who had something of that nature as the two girls whom I was fairly close with in my own way had it as well.
Just what could it be, I wonder?
This was the Whole summary of Volume 10.5 which could be the date (Not really a date but kinda sweet tho) Having the two of them truly acts as a couple.. … and the three of them hanging out in Chiba.. Which is something that Yuigahama is lacking much in a few scenes. The way Yukinoshita follows Hachiman.. (Ahmm.. She really wants to get close to him).. Yukinoshita is very atttached to cats and That “Nya” sound thing.. Yah!! That’s so cute. After that They really made some memories onto themselves. it’s likely they end up trying to keep our manifested, awry feelings held together.
Last Hachimans Ideology :
And lastly, hugged closely from both sides, Yukinoshita, although slightly vexed, was blushing red with embarrassment.
Just how many more days of these normal trivialities could we continue to accumulate from here on?
Just what kind of pain would accompany the nostalgic sight of these photos when we became old enough?
In thinking all of that, I pressed the shutter.
Hopefully Better to Rewatch whether you find the true meaning of genuine in the whole episode All Over Again…. 😀
Oregairu has always been an anime mainly based on dialogue, characters expressions and emotions, especially for season 2. This OVA is no different from the second season either. Though it was made mostly for fun and for the enjoyment of the viewers after the series of drama from the original series, there are still scenes where you feel the pain and awkwardness of the characters. Usually, I don’t give OVA high scores for story as literally nothing happen. But I gave this one a 9/10 mainly because of the life-like interactions of the casts and how it did the LN justice. We get to see a lot about Iroha’s true personality and how sly she is. This is also connected to why I gave the art and characters a 10. The scenery looks great just like season 2 (Even the fingers movement). And since I am a reader of the light novel, this was part of my hype ever since it was announced. Overall, I never expected that I would enjoy an OVA this much.
1.Havent watched the original series yet? : The ova feels exactly like the anime and lives up to the hopes of the fans. Therefore this high rating.
2. Liked season 1,disliked Zoku : Maybe you won’t appreciate it.
3. Liked season 1, love season 2 even more : The wait is over, you can probably rewatct it till they publish another few volumes and bring about a season 3.
I’ve met people who liked the good old Oregairu part one and are put off by Zoku since things turned from being light hearted to intense. But then there are people who liked the show even more after Zoku. I obviously fall in the latter category.
For those of you who liked season one over Zoku, this OVA won’t be that memorable since it re-enact the feels from Zoku. Also, if you haven’t watched the series and somehow stumbled upon this page and are wondering why everyone’s giving it a 10 or so, the answer probably lies in the fact that people either absolutely love this anime or hate it. And since the release happened only yesterday probably the ones who disliked the show didn’t bother to check out the OVA.
Oregairu has always been a special anime for me. Also, since I just finished the OVA chances are that my opinions will be biased. But I don’t even care about them being biased anymore since the mighty 8man and gang are back after almost an year.
The story wasn’t any deep, for those of you who aren’t aware the 1st part of the OVA is a Canon and the second one isn’t. The artwork was awesome as usual. The OVA completely retained the original style of the anime as mentioned by some other reviewers.
