3: Cheating Craft
English: Cheating Craft
MAL Score: 5.42
In a world where academic success decides your entire future, the exam room becomes a ruthless battlefield. Passing the exams guarantees a successful future. Failing dooms you to live a cruel life, tormented by suffering and despair. Only the most intelligent—or cunning—students make it out alive. These are the two strategies of combat: spend your entire life studying for the test, or perfect your cheating strategy. The students who dedicate themselves to studying are called “Learning Type” students, and they are forced to collaborate with a “Cheating Type” student in order to battle their rivals for the top grades.
The cheater Zhuge Mu Ming and studious academic Qiao Yi Huang decide to team up against the exams. However, the allies are soon divided, becoming bitter rivals. Will they be able to make it on their own? And if so, who will survive the challenge and emerge victorious?
You might be thinking, “How could you give this mediocre series a ten, especially when you only give tens to three percent of anime?!” Well, it’s actually a six, but hear me out for a second…
(TL;DR at end)
If you’ve already watched this show, you probably already know that it’s really not THAT great. However, have you ever seen another series like this…? The answer is probably no, and that’s where I feel this anime shines the most.
Anime is supposed to be the genre of artistic imagination, yet we’re constantly bombarded with the same concepts repeatedly. However, Cheating Craft goes against the norm by being a short, 12-minute parody series that makes fun of some popular anime concepts with a fun twist. Every episode contains a comedic and dramatic story, where all you know is that the main character will somehow cheat to prevail over a test in a dramatic way using his family’s impossibly diverse Shokatsu techniques. It has a linear plot and moves at a really great pace towards the single end-goal of living a life of luxury by graduating from their prestigious school.
One of the characters in this series really stood out to me, and that’s Kou-chan (or Huang, Qiao Yi). Kou-chan is is voiced by Rie Kugimiya, otherwise known as the “Queen of Tsundere Voices”. Kou-chan stands out to me because she’s: smart and nerdy, but not shy; simplistic, but not average; unusually focused, but laid back; she’s confident, rude, sarcastic, perverted, bl-loving— in other words, she’s a very unusual and lovable character. In fact, I think she may have one of the more unique (unrealistic) personalities that I’ve seen in the anime genre (let me know if you agree). I think she’s a worthy favorite if you like her enough.
I strongly believe that Cheating Craft should be praised for its unrealistic and bold concepts, like using supernatural abilities for the sole purpose of cheating to pass exams. It’s a stark contrast to most other anime because the teachers are actually the main “villains” of this supernatural school tale. Hell, they might as well have just studied with all the effort that goes into cheating each episode! To add to the humor, you have a disclaimer every episode that says “cheating is a wrongful act, do not imitate.” Note that it is physically impossible to imitate almost anything that happens in it, which makes it even funnier! Then, to finish it off, you have the hilariously dramatic episodes and backstories of the main protagonists.
This anime does not even try to take itself seriously, which adds to the mediocre brilliance. It may be extremely mediocre, but it is honestly the most enjoyable mediocre series that I have ever seen.
This series is masterfully mediocre.
Story: 5 – Linear, good pacing, rather average story.
Art: 6 – Fluid, Dramatic, Good Enough.
Sound: 9 – This actually threw me off… There’s not usually great music in a mediocre series…
Character: 5 – All are archetypes except Kou-chan
Enjoyment 9 – Surprisingly entertaining, despite having no intellectual value.
I highly recommend that you watch it! If you don’t like it by the 3rd episode, then you probably won’t like it.
Overall: 10 out of fucking 10.
China brings you a new generic shonen battle / gag series to add to the pile of generic shonen battle series we already have in Japan. WITH EXAMS!!!
Cheating Craft takes place in a world where CHEATING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!!! There are those who can learn and there are those who can cheat. Everything’s fair in love, war and exams. From pen tranquiliser guns to X-ray glasses; from making origami weapons to training an insect army, the otherworldly cheating kung fu skills elevate the premise to higher realms of fun campy silliness. JUST STUDY DAMMIT!!!
There’s no real storyline and the show follows the Gag of the Week format. My jaw dropped at least once or twice per episode at how the writers manage to pull off increasingly silly random fun stuff every week.
As at the final episode: I still stand my ground that studying is still much easier than training these cheating techniques.
Standard colourful shonen art. Nothing to complain about.
Great work by Sakabe Go. They even have orchestral pieces to match the epicness of the show. It makes you want to buy the OST from episode 1.
Standard shonen battle characters. Hot blooded male MC- check. Rivals with colourful hair- check. Cute girls to trigger shipping wars – double check. Also nothing to complain about.
What stands out about the characters is that their VAs really sound like they’re having fun throughout the whole series. From the squealing of a fujoshi fangirl to flying sharks to the yelling out of shonen attacks in the middle of exams, it’s a total ham fest for people who love ham.
Enjoyment and Overall: 10
Cheating Craft is a show which surpasses the sum of its generic looking parts. In terms of pure enjoyment and fun, it’s a perfect TEN in my books.
Storywise, It was good at first (ep 1) , but it’s plot which was themed after the art of cheating was anything but just too overly exaggerated, that the entertainment side of it starts to wane down, I mean, such plot about cheating on an exam simply wasn’t a good fit to use as a plot base, when combine with martial arts, super powers and harem ( since there is a subtle rivalry between Koui Ou and Haku Ryu for mumei’s affection), the plot based on cheating really doesn’t fit in with the genre, so yes the plot was really a poor 3.
Art, ok so there isn’t any panty shots that can be seen with any of them eye candies, but it does have one episode that features Ms. Ou in a hot swim suit and just this last episode , her in a sexy Qi Pao , and that is a fair enough 6. The rest where just too dorky in a fashion sense, like Mumei’s pant’s that were style to be a chino pants and him sporting white long arm band, Ms. Ou’s teacher outfit and her Chung Li’s hair style, Kou chan’s glasses, Zhou’s long hair, Jun’s headset and Anri’s outfit, where it can be consider as a serious crime of fashion. You if only studio Balde could have added a lot of fanservice around here, then maybe this dorky anime could have been saved.
Sound, I’d probably say that it’s a good 7, since the voice did matched the right character’s , like Ms. Ou having a matured voice and Kou having a childish voice.
CHaracter, I’d say it was really a Pathetic 1 , thing cu’z the character’s themselves, aside from being annoying, really don’t match this anime, like :
Mumei Shokatsu, he’d probably should be in Akame ga Kill, cu’z of his Shokatsu Technique. Also, for him to rely on Kou to pass and being this master of martial arts, was really an oxymoron on his role, now he has the time and determination to learn the Shokatsu Technique and even level it up to a Nichirin Shoten, and yet he has a hard time of studying to become a L type and prefers to be a C type, well, if he’s a C- type then that simply makes his character as a C as in crooked and cheap, one reason for him being pathetic. since he’s very much a double standard.
Koui Ou, is very much a character, where one would probably prefer that she be hostile to Mumei by keeping him off her test paper nd just let him get kicked out, rather than be his tool for passing, let’s face it Mumei doesn’t even acknowledge her feeling for him, and instead he goes for Haku Ryu, and yet there she still hopes to be romantically involve with Mumei, how stupid was she? If she is to be in the right anime, then she should be in Baka to test.
Anri, we the audience, where left to wonder if she is a C or an L, for the entire episode from 1 to 12 we never see her cheat nor do we see her being smart. Also, letting us audience know her powers was lately introduced in to this anime, she could have been an awesome eye candy if not for her dorky fashion. Too bad she was just limited as another support just like Rinu Shu, if she is to be in the right anime , then she would fit in at Highschool DxD.
Rinu Shu, I’d say he’s gaaaaaaay and he should be in Gakuen Hansome.
Bugman, JUN, should be in Shaman King.
Teacher Miss . Ou, ok, at one point she is this 30 something single lady who hope to get marry, and then a 90 degree turn make him same kind of ET who is hired to give the ultimate test of insanity of destroying earth…………..LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anime where she should be????????Anywhere as long as it’s hentai.
Haku Ryu, is just too sweet and nice to be here and she would be a better fit in “Orange.”
Enjoyment, a decent 4, since I just bear with it all along, so.
Overall, it’s just an anime of too many oxymoron of the character’s, double standards of the roles of the character and with all that anachronisms, this thing is just toooooooo dreadful 2 the max, so no, no, no, I don’t give a fuck as to what had happen to Mumei after we heard a BANG, no, no, no to a sequel of what kind.
2: Iwa Kakeru!: Sport Climbing Girls
Japanese: いわかける！ -Sport Climbing Girls-
MAL Score: 6.47
Video games, especially puzzle games, were always at the center of Konomi Kasahara’s life. However, upon entering Hanamiya High School, she decides to break away from this lifestyle. As Konomi wanders the halls in search of a new activity to engage herself in, she stumbles upon a gigantic wall owned by the school’s rock climbing team. Fascinated, she attempts to scale the wall, discovering that she can use her puzzle-solving skills to help her reach the top.
Certain that she has found her calling, Konomi immediately joins the club. As she strives to improve her climbing skills, Konomi, alongside the rest of the Hanamiya Climbing Team, will learn what it truly means to be a “sports climber” and work to achieve victory in the upcoming competitions.
1: You must be a hot girl – 2: You ought to have medium-size tits – 3: Preferably in high school.
These are the requirements for climbing. I agree that these are some rather specific requirements for such an unknown sport, but one must sacrifice oneself for the greater good. Ryuudai, the legend he is, has allowed us to reach heaven, and what a journey it has been. Full of emotions, lessons, enlightenment, refinement, and experience. All these are mixed and forming onto a virtuous life we’ve finally gotten.
Iwa Kakeru was tough to get through because my best friend (you know who I’m talking about) couldn’t standstill. Each time a character started showing their magnificent moves, he always got excited and wanted to let it go. As someone who doesn’t like mixing the two, I couldn’t let that happen. I was dead serious and wanted to first enjoy the show and then get to work. I started watching and loved all the characters, their personalities, their role in the story, and what it means to fight and try to win over others who are as good as they are. It is a fierce battle that must be won at all costs or nothing will be seen as it should be – this is what all the characters continually thought of their opponents and never gave up because this is what it means to live with a purpose: going up against the mightiest of storms and face them with a big smile on the face that one day they would be the winners and that everyone would be proud of them.
That’s not all.
Once I watched the third episode for no particular reason I decided to take a walk. After a while, I ran into a hot girl, a runner to be more precise—she was about my age—I took the initiative and talked to her, I hang out with her for a while and was able to get her number. A few days later I made sure no one was home and invited her. We started talking to each other and I came to know that she was wonderful in all possible ends. Pretty, nice personality, sharp-witted, and the whole time we talked, we got along quite well. You should come to a conclusion on your own about what happened next—the gods themselves gave it to me as a merciful relief to a lonely being like me and I am grateful.
Then I woke up.
My disappointment was immeasurable and my life got ruined. I went into an internal crisis, stayed awake for days, my arms were tired and I could barely move them, my eyes were half open and I was twisting from lack of sleep, I had hardly eaten anything nutritious and was losing weight, all I did was stay in bed all the time. My parents were worried about my well-being and didn’t know anything about the situation as I didn’t want to say anything as it would embarrass me – I was losing all hope.
It clicked within me.
I hadn’t finish Iwa Kakeru. How could I forget its existence? It was inadmissible on my part and I deserved to die. I wanted to get over with my life, but I just waited a little longer and watched the entire anime. Couldn’t be happier. It changed my life for the better and made me rethink the decisions I’ve made in the past. It gave me a second chance to move forward into a new dawn and that would help me find the little meaningful existence I was missing – I’ve changed and that’s what really matters.
Who should watch this show? People who are into CGDCT, people who are curious about climbing or enjoy outdoor activities in general. If you’re coming here expecting something to blow you away narratively, you’re going to be disappointed. The scale of the show is small and rather self-contained. It’s not too ambitious in anything it does, at least in this first season.
We follow Konomi on her journey of self-improvement and developing her climbing skills in various competitions. One of the coolest parts of the show is the fact the we actually learn about competitive climbing as a sport, its rules, objectives and team dynamics. As much as I loved Konomi, Jun and the rest of the girls, I loved the educational aspect just as much.
I really enjoyed the OST of the show as well. I feel that’s something that often gets overlooked with seasonals, but it can add a lot to the overall experience.
For me, Iwa Kakeru! was one of the best parts of my weekend and I will definitely miss it, here’s to hoping for a season 2. Iwa Kakeru gets 10 clears out of 10 from me.
I will not try to hide the fact that this anime is quite unique. I mean, how many anime about sport climbing do you know? Kasahara Konomi is a hikimori, who only plays games. Her life shows her that everything is not easy and one cannot just play games and do nothing else. She spends less time on games, trying to pay school enough time. But, one day, she also finds out about sport climbing and falls in love with it. It is an open secret that playing games for many years will not help your muscles in any way, and sport climbing requires one hell of a physical training. Nevertheless, during her first day as a club’s member, Kasahara Konomi finds out that there will be a tournament soon and her senpai recommend her to take part in it. And so Konomi’s new passion is born.
Okay, sport climbing; while indeed a somewhat boring sport to focus on, it cannot be that bad. I was wrong. First, it is somewhat of an issue that the protagonist is a gamer and then, boom, she becomes good at sport climbing. And it is a no secret that becoming good at something will require from you years of hardworking. Fine, it is, too, not that much of a problem for me to butthurt about; I am used to battle-shounen and sudden power-ups out of nowhere. However, my biggest problem with this anime is that instead of something slightly reminding a story and somewhat good characters, Iwa-Kakeru! is more of a show that can offer you teenage girls in skimpy workout clothes and nice shots of Konomi’s bosom and other girls’ ass-cheeks.
Yeah, so, if you are looking for some lewd-teenage-girls-climbing-anime, this might be what you are looking for. If not, better to avoid this one.
1: Gin no Guardian II
English: The Silver Guardian 2
MAL Score: 6.55
At Shinryou Private Academy—an expensive school for wealthy students—one would never expect to find the poverty-stricken Suigin Riku. When he is not working on one of his many part-time jobs to pay his tuition, he can often be found playing the RPG game Dungeon Century, where he has cultivated a relationship with an online friend. However, when Dungeon Century shuts down, he finds out that his crush, the kind-hearted Rei Riku, and his online friend are the same person.
But in the aftermath of this revelation, Rei gets kidnapped and taken into Grave Buster, which is a new online game from the creators of Dungeon Century, forcing Suigin to enter the harsh new world of a pay-to-win game in order to save her. Gin no Guardian 2nd Season continues Suigin’s quest to rescue Rei, while attempting to solve the mysteries of this strange game.
This anime feels disconnected from the first season, the number of plot holes resembles that of a colander but unlike a colander it fails to hold anything of importance like my attention.
So little is explained from the first season and instead the second season does nothing but increase the confusion. I have not read the web manga but the anime feels like its taken the web manga, strained everything thats good from it and used the left over as the basis for the plot because if the web manga is as bad as the anime then there is no way in hell that it would have been animated.
As Ive said in the beginning, nothing is explained yet more characters are introduced. There are one or two acceptable fights in the anime but it feels like they put those in so the anime wouldnt be complete trash, they add nothing to character development and the powers used in the fights are never seen again. It seems like the length of the episodes do not play well with the story especially when dialogue drags on and wastes precious time that could be used to make the anime more interesting. Instead time is wasted on explaining what the character did in a fight or flashbacks of characters that play no part later on in the anime. The game inside the anime is also pooly explained and in the second season its even worse. Is the game in virtual reality? What are the value of assets? In the first season its stated that in game money cannot be used in reality but Suigin clearly uses it to pay for his lunch?? Do you lose your assets when you are defeated? Because sometimes you do sometimes you dont???????? Overall the story is pathetic.
The art is not bad, pretty standard.
Again nothing special.
really shallow characters with little developement for each of them does Suigin get stronger at all?? Who knows.
HA what enjoyment.
For a short anime to be this bad is embarrasing, the story should be condensed into short and sweet episodes but theyve managed to make short episodes somehow drag on.
Much better with the story here and it is decent enough to pass
Pretty good art and animation, some part is not all that good but for most part especially the more intense fight scene, the art is better
Good OP and ED,other then that, the voice acting is alright
More character is introduced and they are quite interesting but is a bit blend
It is one of those meh anime that is quite fun and interesting to watch
Right now,i really want a season 3 since it ended it a pretty decent cliff hanger
I think this anime has a good story. Not for only the season 2 but, from the start of the anime, I already like it
It has pretty decent quality of art and animation, it’s not the best, but I still enjoying it a lot
It has some good music here, when the fights start or the drama begins, eventhough it’s not memorable. The OP is still the same, powerful. The ED is… really beautiful
Not really much character development, because this season is full with action. I think they don’t have room for it. Yeah, Suigin is getting stronger though
I really enjoy watching this anime. I don’t know why, maybe because i’m not watch this type of anime lately
Overall, It’s a good anime for me. Some people may hate it. But, yeah its only an opinion. Everyone has their own opinion
It’s not over yet, so I hope it gets another season
