  • Red Heart Super Saver Economy Yarn, Blue

  • Red Heart with Love Yarn, Pewter

  • Lion Brand Yarn 830-125H Cotton-Ease Yarn, Hazelnut

Ch =chain

Sc = single crochet

Inc = increase

Dec = decrease

Star Applique:

*Please note that I did not create the pattern for the star applique. The link to the pattern of the star and the video on how to make the star is listed below!*

*I also suggest that when you finish off the star applique, you make leave a long ending so that you will have enough yarn to sew it onto the shield.*

Front Part of Shield:

STARTING WITH BLUE YARN

1: Magic Ring (6)

2: inc around (12)

3: sc, inc (18)

4: 1 sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) ( << Do this 5x!), 1 sc (24)

5: sc 3, inc (30)

6: 2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) ( << Do this 5x!), 2 sc (36)

9: sc 7, inc (54)

10: sc all around (54)

*Before changing my color, I decided to sew on my star applique onto the blue circle. The star should be able to fit within the blue circle. I used a 3.5 mm hook to create the star but if it does not fit you can use a smaller hook size.*

CHANGE TO RED YARN

 *I sc all around a lot within my pattern to give it a more concave shape. You can choose not to do that and increase by 6 on your own.*

*FASTEN OFF*

*I aligned both the front and back part of the shield together and began sewing and connecting them with the long red yarn end. I simultaneously stuffed it while sewing them together. If you want a more puffy and convex shape, then stuff it more. If you want a more concave shape, stuff it less.*

*If it is easier for you, then you can assemble the belt parts onto the back of the shield BEFORE connecting and stuffing it to the front part of the shield. The choice is yours!*

BELT PARTS OF BACK SHIELD (MAKE 6 OF THESE!):

*FOR THE PARTS OF THE BELT THAT ARE HANDLES AND STAY UP (You only need to do this for 2 of these): Before creating a knot to start the chains, I made sure that I used a long yarn end in the beginning to make my knot and a long yarn end to fasten off. This is important for sewing it on because I sewed it on from two different sides!*

USING BROWN YARN

1: ch 17

2: sc in each stitch starting from the stitch that is 2nd to last on the chain (16)

3: chain 1 and flip your work and sc crochet along again (16)

4: chain 1 and flip your work and sc crochet along again (16)

5: chain 1 and flip your work and sc crochet along again (16)

*FASTEN OFF*

Here is a picture of how I assembled each belt piece on the back of the shield:
