Game Jam 2017 – Luck Rework

Overview

The current Ring of Wealth, and way that luck works in-game right now, sucks. This project reworks lucks to now work in four tiers – Low tier, Med tier, High tier and Elite tier (or tiers 1, 2, 3 and 4)

The Ring of Wealth would now become a Medium tier luck item and there would be three new rings added for the other tiers. They are:

  • Tier 1 – Ring of Luck

    • Skill requirements: 11 Crafting, 7 Magic

    • Ingredients: Gold bar, Cut lapis lazuli, Ring mould, Water rune, Cosmic rune

    • Stats: Level 15 ring stats (+3 to all styles, no armour)

    • Notes:

      • Available to be worn by F2P, can only be crafted by P2P

      • Tradeable

  • Tier 3 – Ring of Fortune

    • Skill requirements: 67 Crafting, 87 Magic

    • Ingredients: Gold bar, Cut onyx, Ring mould, 20 Earth runes, 20 Fire runes, Cosmic rune

    • Stats: Level 50 ring stats (+13 to all styles, no armour)

    • Notes:

      • This is a replacement for the Ring of Stone as the enchanted Onyx Ring.

        • The existing Ring of Stone will now be a drop from TzHaar/Tok-Haar creatures

        • The requirement to make an Onyx ring, and to cut an Onyx, has increased to 72 Crafting

      • Has unlimited teleports to the Grand Exchange and Miscellenia

      • Tradeable

  • Tier 4 – Luck of the Dwarves

    • Skill requirements: 97 Crafting, 87 Magic, 107 Invention

    • Ingredients: Gold bar, Alchemical onyx, 20 Earth runes, 20 Fire runes, Cosmic rune

    • Stats: Level 60 ring stats (+17 to all styles, no armour)

    • Notes:

      • This is a brand new item with a couple of new materials needed to craft it that come from Invention

        • The idea is to add a new tier of jewelry and gem that is a step up from Onyx but not at the Hydrix level

        • Also adds a new type of gem which could open up some more crafted jewellery going forward

      • How to craft an Alchemical Onyx:

        • 1x Onyx

        • 50x Fortunate Components

        • 50x Refined Components

        • 10x Precious Components

      • This is the highest tier crafted luck item that players can get their hands on

      • Tradeable

What about existing items?

  • Ring of Wealth

    • Nothing changes other than it now only works with the tier 2/medium tier bits of content

    • You can still charge it, it still teleports and its still made using a Dragonstone

  • Luck potion

    • Becomes a medium/tier 2 item

    • Can be upgraded to an Enhanced Luck Potion (which is tier 3) by adding 6 Onyx bolt tips.

  • Collector’s Insignia

    • Uncharged, it will continue to work as a tier 2 item

    • Whilst it is charged, it will work like a tier 3 item and degrade like it currently does

    • Continues to have the other benefits (like extra Agility xp)

  • Leprechaun Hat

    • Will continue to work as a tier 2 luck item.

  • Lucky rabbits foot

    • Will now work like a tier 1 luck item.

  • Vecna skull

    • Will continue to be dropped via the RDT, now requires tier 4 luck to obtain.

What does new tiers work on?

Here is a list of the content that the new luck tiers can work on:

  • Rare drops from Slayer

    • Items like Triskellion pieces, Abyssal Whips or Mystic armour pieces

    • Will not work on:

      • Pets

      • Sirenic Scales 

      • Ascension Keystones/Signets

      • Champion Scrolls

  • Unique drops from Bosses

    • Will not work on pets

  • Chance at clue-specific loot from clue scrolls

    • God pages, clue cosmetics and dyes

  • Rare Drop Table

    • The higher the tier, the better loot you’ll get from RDT

    • The RDT will also now be a bonus drop rather than replacing drops at monsters and bosses

  • Skilling things

    • Like the old Ring of Wealth it’ll work on gems and things like that

    • Uniques from pickpocketing like in Elf City or Pyramid Plunder

What tier does what?

  • Tier 1

    • Level 1-50 Slayer monsters

    • Easy clues

    • The following bosses:

      • KBD

      • Giant Mole

  • Tier 2

    • Level 51-80 Slayer monsters

    • Skilling:

      • Mining Gems

      • Jewelled Statuettes and Tradeable Sceptre from Pyramid Plunder

      • Opening Shade chests

      • Flash Powder Factory rubble searching

    • Medium clues

    • The following bosses:

      • Chaos Elemental

      • Kalphite Queen

      • Exiled Kalphite Queen

      • Godwars Dungeon 1

      • Barrows

      • Dagganoth Kings

    • Increased chance at better loot from RDT

  • Tier 3

    • Level 81-99 Slayer monsters

    • High level skilling:

      • Rare drops from Elf City pickpocketing

      • Increased chance of Black Ibis outfit

      • Imporved loot from Kingly Implings

      • Improved chance of Sceptre of the Gods

    • Hard clues

    • The following bosses

      • Queen Black Dragon

      • Nex

      • Godwars Dungeon 2

      • Kalphite King

      • Corporeal Beast

    • Further increased chance at better loot from RDT

  • Tier 4

    • All Slayer monsters

    • All skilling

    • Elite clues

    • The following bosses (plus previous tier bosses)

      • Angel of Death

      • Telos

      • Raids

      • Rise of the Six

      • Vorago

      • Araxxqbd2or

    • Even further increased chance at better loot from RDT and chance for unique drops from the RDT

Feedback and suggestions from Discord

  • Make the Collector’s Insignia (uncharged) tier 3 and then tier 4 if charged

    • No, going to keep them as T2 and T3 for now.

  • Add a tier 4 luck potion

    • Potentially going forward but not currently.

  • Require players to wear the item during a kill in order to get a drop chance increase

    • No, players can swap should they wish to. 

  • Add Abomination Cape being affected by luck

    • This is done.

  • Make Ring of Fortune and Luck of the Dwarves imbue-able from Mobilising Armies

    • Looking in to this.

  • – Currently, Ring of wealth increases the chance of spawning a more powerful Edimmu. Could this be applied to the effects of the new Luck effect so that Luck increases the chances of a elite slayer monster, strong Edimmu,  Elite rune dragon, the Wildywyrm or the cyclossus spawning?

    • No. The T3 does continue to increase the chance of Elite Edimmu but this isn’t applied globally.

  •  – Would Luck apply on rare drops from non-Slayer monsters, like Rune dragons, Glacors, Tormented demons, Revenants, Tormented wraith, Celestial dragons and Chaos dwarf fighters?

    • Yes. Most unique items like Glacor Boots, Visages, Dragon Platelegs and the like are all affected by the new luck.

  •  – Could the clue scroll increase the drop chance of clue scrolls, effigies and court summons?

    • No, obtaining clues isn’t difficult as it stands. Any existing boots where wearing luck items does increase these chances remain.

  •  – Could the Luck effect improve the loot obtained when opening caskets, crystal chests, shade chests, Motherlode Maw 

  • +and catching implings, kind of like how Ring of wealth works now, but notably better?

    • It is currently working on:

      • Both crystal chests

      • Triskellion

      • Motherlode maw

    • For the others, I don’t feel like they need luck improvement.

  •  – Currently, for some strange reason, Luck does not improve the chance of obtaining loot from Barrows. Would this be changed with the Luck rework?

    • This is still TBC.

  •  – How will different levels of Luck effect the guaranteed rewards from Bork? And if changes are made, could other D&D bosses like Agoroth, Skeletal Horror and the Phoenix receive a buff to their rewards if any Luck effect is activated?

    • The Ring of Wealth will continue to boost improve guaranteed rewards for Bork, the other tiers will not further increase this.

  •  – Currently, Ring of wealth increases the chance of receiving a Pharaoh's sceptre and jewelled golden statuettes, but not Black ibis outfit pieces. Could Black ibis outfit pieces be made affected by Luck?

    • Yes, Black ibis chance will be increased by luck (in particular, T3)
