How much do freelance web developers make on Upwork?

I develop on freelancer.com, and make about $1,000 a month, part time (nights, weekends). I can imagine a full-timer could make upwards of 4K a month at least if I can pull in between 1 and 2k a month.

It really depends on how much you bid, what kind of projects you bid on, and how you sell yourself to clients when you place your bids.

My best advice is this:

  1. Don’t short yourself. Bid what you are worth, don’t low ball your bids.
  2. Explain why you are the person for the job, be elaborate and really sell yourself. A lot of people seem to skip the explanation. Don’t. Explain why you are the best fit for the job.
  3. Don’t accept more work than you can handle. You will lose money.
