It’s great fun, hollering with your mates as you pass around the same pint of cheap booze,

And it’s also great fun to savour a glass of fine wine at some ritzy dinner table somewhere.

But, ah… The elegance to be found in a simple act is a peculiar thing indeed…

Though, you could say, the night sky is all I have now to share a drink with…

(′????`)< … Tonight, we toast to the moon.

Well, this certainly isn’t anything to sneeze at,

But I’m already far past my prime, you know?

For what reason do you gather such worthless things?

If you simply must have a collection,

Then I think it’d be best, for you and me both,

If the things you collected held not so tragic a history…

(′????`)< All this, even though I’d call myself the quintessence of ruin…

(frothing at the mouth)

“Jose birthday ?? Jose ?? Jose ?? Birthday ?? Jose’s Birthday ?? Hum Hum ??”

What are you trying to get at with that song of yours?

… Wait, no, what in the world are you getting at with that song?

I can’t quite shake the feeling that I’m being made a fool of,

But it’s just so oddly rhythmical that it’s quite the earworm, isn’t it?

Blast… It won’t stop repeating in my head…

(′????`)< Some kind of musical hypnosis, is it?

“I wonder what kind of truth Jose is searching for. I’d like you, as much as you can, to choose the peaceful road; one without suffering.”

Mind that you know this – there are times when sticking your neck into things isn’t quite the most prudent thing to do.

Before you know it, that head of yours will have rolled, and by then it’ll be far too late for realisations, won’t it?

(′????`)< Or hmm… Could it be that you’re looking to come over to our side, perhaps?

Jose: Jose-san

気付いたら断頭台に居ました (“Before you know it, that head of yours will have rolled”): The literal translation of this is “When you notice, you’ll be at the guillotine”.

God knows what the last part means, perhaps he’s implying they’re already dead, who knows. I did my best to make it [I’m dragged off by muscular guards before I can finish my sentence]

“So you want to change the regrets of your past… Now, at this Sports Fest, show me your “determination”, Jose Baden.”

If I could change them, I would, of course.

It’s the common sort of feeling everyone’s had before, isn’t it?

They say you learn from your failures to make the most of next time,

But I, made to rely solely on so drunken, so capricious a thing,

Have not even the room to reflect left to my name, you know.

(′????`)< Well, it’ll trouble the horses, if anything.

“HOSEeEEEEEaEAEEEEEAEeEE!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (YELLING) JOSE SO CUTEeEEEEEeeEeeeee!!!!”

O-ohhh!? N-now what’s wrong with you!?

It’s true that I go by Jose, but I don’t recall ever being thanked or called cute or some such!?

(′????`)< A-are you quite certain you’ve got the right person?

You there, are you under hypnosis or something?

You have terrible taste, falling for a man like me.

I’ll tell you this – I’m a man whose flesh has fallen to despair, depravity, and drink.

(′????`)< Good grief… You nearly got me there, you know?

Valentines’ Day 2020

The last sentence means something approximately around the lines of “You nearly got me to take you seriously”, I believe.

The man he once was had such fame that there were none who didn’t know his name.

He, who dedicated his blood, sweat, and tears to fulfilling his mission of protecting the Empire’s ships, lost everything because of a single incident.
