Nakura’s AMD Ryzen 5800X FL Problems

I did some tests on the project I have been testing on and here is what I was able to come up with.

6i6 at 512smp with effects disabled: It runs perfectly

6i6 at 512smp with Fruity Filters removed: It runs perfectly

6i6 at 256smp with effects disabled: Underruns. FLs underrun counter was ticking up before I hit play. Also got audio glitches that did not register as underruns.

6i6 using FL asio at 512smp with effects diabled: It runs perfectly

6i6 using FL asio at 512smp with Fruity Filters removed: 1 underrun at the start of the drop. Other than that, it was perfect.

It seems that, with that particular project at least, I can’t go lower than 256smp no matter what. Fruity Filter seems to be causing issues, though I am still not sure if it is it on it’s own or in combo with something.

I created a new project just to test the filter. I used 4 copies of Dune 3 playing chords, each routed to a different mixer track. On each mixer track I added a Parametric EQ 2 with a gentle low cut and a Raum reverb. The project was able to play just fine using my Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 at 512smp. I then added a Fruity Filter doing a LP filter sweep over 16 bars and started getting underruns. I also tried deleting everything except Dune 3 and the Fruity Filters and I still got underruns.

To make sure that Dune 3 and/or Raum were not causing issues, I rendered out each copy of Dune 3, created a new project, deleted them from the project, and replaced Raum with a Fruity Reeverb 2. The project was able to play just fine with just the LP filter sweep. So I added a copy of Frutiy Filter doing an HP sweep to each of the 4 mixer tracks. Once I did this, I started getting underruns again. I again deleted everything except for the Fruity Filters, and I got less underruns than the project with Dune 3, but they still happened. I also got audio glitches that did not register as an underrun.

Here is a link to the projects if you want to try: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cnti9f2svgsntvu/AABU28LrqkmI5WKTNgtK1pPla?dl=0

I am not sure what I should do about this, this is not normal behaviour. I have a few options, first I can use the system as is and try to work around the issues, hoping things will get better in the future. Second, I can return the motherboard for a replacement either of the same model or a different one and see if that fixes anything. Third, I can return the CPU and motherboard and go with an Intel system, but that is pretty much the nuclear option. I guess there is a fourth option of going back to my old system, but I don’t like that.
