Zendaya's rise to fame - Then and Now

Zendaya's rise to fame - Then and Now

Born with one less tooth on the bottom of her mouth, Zendaya is one of Hollywood's biggest names as we speak. Now, we’re taking a look back at where it all began and the transformation she’s made in honour of her mid 20s. But wait, did you know all that Zendaya achieved at the Disney Channel? What about her role in the 2019  hit series ‘Euphoria’? Well, stay tuned because you don't want to miss this!

Nobody doesn't know Zendaya Coleman, unless you live in a cage where you've got no access to information. The Primetime Emmy Award winner has the kind of star-power that doesn't even require a surname — just like Drake who found his way long before her.

Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman was born in Oakland, California on September 1, 1996, and is the daughter of Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu (Coleman). While still in school, she starred in ‘Once on This Island’ and ‘Caroline, or Change’. She studied drama at the California Shakespeare Theater and the American Conservatory Theater near her hometown.

She grew up in an acting family as her mother worked as the House Manager for the Shakespeare Theatre in Orinda, California. Zendaya spent a lot of her childhood at the theatre. She helped her mom in running errands and also got the chance to learn acting and take part in plays.

How did she get into acting? Zendaya got into acting through her mom's work in the theatre. Most of Zendaya's young acting experience was on stage. To date, she has performed in a number of plays. Zendaya also has significant dancing experience. And she was in a hip hop dance troupe called Future Shock for three years and also was a hula dancer with the Academy of Hawaiian Arts.

Zendaya has great comedic chemistry with her co-star Bella Thorne and they made the Disney Channel show a success. Shake It Up had the second highest rated debut for a Disney Channel show right after Hannah Montana. The cast won the Outstanding Young Ensemble In a TV Series for 2011 from the Young Artist Foundation.

Now, Hollywood is littered with cautionary tales of child stardom gone wrong— but Zendaya's story isn't among them. Zendaya has become one of the most sought-after young actresses in Hollywood right before our own eyes! At the age of 14, she had already gained prominence for her role as Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel show where she acted and danced alongside fellow rising star Bella Thorne until the series ended in 2013.

Although Zendaya did not have much Television acting experience, her combination of stage acting and dance experience was perfect for the show Shake It Up! on Disney Channel. She landed the co-lead role as Raquel "Rocky" Blue, a teenager who plays a dancer on the local dance show Shake It Up: Chicago. Rocky is more the rule follower than her friend CeCe, but CeCe helps Rocky to try more things, namely to try out for the dance show.

The actress has seamlessly transitioned from children’s TV to action-packed blockbuster movies and mature drama series with absolute ease.

You see, transitioning from Disney Channel star to the industry's "It" girl is no easy feat, but just a couple years removed from her Mouse House days, Zendaya is part of a super successful drama series—her role on HBO's racy Euphoria netting the star her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama—and shutting the red carpet down pretty much anytime she steps onto it.

The starlet's transition into the big leagues wasn't all that surprising because even while appearing on the children's network she was able to nab some feature film roles. She starred in both installments of Marvel's beloved superhero series—Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 and Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 as Michelle "MJ" Jones—earning her three Teen Choice Awards for her efforts, Summer Movie Actress both years and Female Movie Star of 2019.

Having proved she was more than just a child star, Zendaya quickly leveled up onto cable television securing the part of Rue Bennett, a recovering drug addict with severe anxiety, on controversial HBO drama Euphoria, a drastic change from her more conventional roles on Disney.

Many were surprised Zendaya took on such a risqué character, but her explanation was simple. "This sounds corny, but I listened to my heart," Zendaya said when speaking with Deadline in May 2020. "I didn't think strategically 'this is the role I should be doing'. I just fell in love with what I read, the character and there was no doubt in my mind that I needed and wanted to do this. It's purely because I felt connected to it."

So she was unbothered by the major backlash kicked up after the 2019 premiere, some viewers taking issue with the raunchy content surrounding the lives of the series' teenagers.

In 2021, Zendaya starred in Malcolm & Marie, which was filmed during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. The production complied with extensive safety protocols and had a lean crew to minimize health dangers. The film co-stars John David Washington, and was directed by Sam Levinson, who also created her series Euphoria.

The actress allocated shares in the film to all those who were involved in its making, as a way of offering a financial bonus when the movie was sold. A portion of the proceeds was also shared with Feeding America. The film received mixed reception but Zendaya's performance was positively reviewed. Brian Truitt of USA Today described her as "luminous" and "absolute fire," and Peter Debruge of Variety praised her for "wearing Marie's fragility on the surface, only to reveal the character’s strength through reaction shots and silence.

And we hope you are enjoying our video. Just keep on watching upto the end, because we still have a lot for you.

Ok, so you thought Zendaya is going to take a break any time soon, right?  then I am sorry for you.  Her schedule is just packed to the brim. Zendaya will portray Chani in Denis Villeneuve's science fiction film Dune, the first part of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name, scheduled for release in October 2021. She will also re-team with filmmaker Jon Watts for a leading role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is scheduled to be released in December 2021. In September 2020, it was announced that Zendaya had been cast to portray Ronettes frontwoman Ronnie Spector in a biopic adapted from Spector's memoir Be My Baby.

Since 2017, Zendaya has been attached to produce and star in A White Lie, as Anita Hemmings, an African-American woman who was a descendant of slaves and Europeans, and passed as white in order to attend Vassar College in the 1890s. The following year, she was also cast in Brian Helgeland's crime thriller Finest Kind. In April 2021, it was announced that Zendaya would be voicing the character of Lola Bunny in Space Jam: A New Legacy.

What about her properties? You may ask. Well, in 2017 when she was only twenty years old, Zendaya had already reached the very impressive milestone of home ownership, thanks to the $1.4 million mouth watering property that she acquired in Los Angeles.

In 2020, the unstoppable star just purchased a brand new property in Encino, a celebrity-favorite neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley. Just outside Los Angeles, the nearly four-acre compound is a sprawling space for the star to settle in. The price tag for the new digs? A cool four million, according to Variety.

And we have a feeling this will be a spot the actress will settle down in for quite a while. Built in 1939, the large ranch-style building features over 5,000 square feet of living space, a large backyard and pool, and even a guesthouse. With six bedrooms, we bet Zendaya will play host to lots of family and friends.

All of this success and possession has made Zendaya very lucrative, meaning she's rich...like really rich and considering she's been in the spotlight since 2009, it's safe to say that she has a pretty hefty net worth by now. So, what does all of this hard work amount to? A whole lot of cash. Zendaya's net worth is estimated to be $15 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth and she's only 24, so at this rate, she's probably going to take over the world by 30. Who knows?

So there you go, Zendaya's journey. What do you think? Is she going to outdo herself in the future or her greatness is slowly fading away? Well, let us know in the comments section.
